Jesus Reveals Himself in This Way
John 21:1-14
As always, John uses his language with precision as he tells this narrative. In his account, Jesus “revealed himself in this way.” It is not merely that Jesus shows up for a third time, but John wants us to see some specific things about the nature of the risen Lord. Since “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.” (Hebrews 13:8), Jesus continues to reveal Himself to us today as:
The One Who Knows
Our expertise will always fall short.
Jesus knows: who, what, where, when, why and how.
We yield to His proficiency and sufficiency in all things.
The One Who Commands
Our voice has (and should have) limited authority.
Jesus speaks with compassionate authority.
We unquestioningly, joyfully and willingly submit to the Lord.
The One Who Provides
Our ability to provide is dependent on God.
He displays grace and glory through abundance.
We receive grace for God’s purposes.
