John 20:30-31

Today we start a new series of messages based on the Gospel of John. John’s writings emphasize love, truth and joy. For John these are tied together and find fulfillment in Jesus. It might seem odd that the sermon series begins at the end of the Gospel. It is there that John declares his purpose for writing.

John’s Unique and Unified Witness

Different from Matthew, Mark and Luke = the Synoptic Gospels

Synoptic: a general view of the whole, presenting the same view

John’s chosen accounts of Jesus and His teachings

      Now Jesus did many other signs in the presence of the disciples,

      which are not written in this book

A Trusted Testimony about Jesus

      but these are written so that you may believe Jesus is the Christ,

      the Son of God

Assurance: John 21:24, 1 John 1:1-4

Faith: Our response to God’s love

The Christ: Anointed One – the fulfillment of God’s promises

The Son of God: Divinity

The Fulfillment of Our Deepest Desires

      and that by believing you may have life in his name

Quantity: Eternal – John 3:16

Quality: Abundant – John 10:10
