Follow the Light
John 8:12-30
Jesus was transfigured (shone with dazzling brightness) before three of his disciples. (Matthew 17:1-8) When God’s kingdom comes in fullness, there will be “no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb.” (Revelation 21:23) Jesus, the Light of the world, said to follow him. Following Jesus means we:
Recognize the Light
Of the world – everything (vs. 12)
Overcomes darkness (vs. 12 & 1:5)
Gives life (vs. 12 & 1:4)
Understand the Light
We are from this world – Jesus is from above (vs. 23)
Jesus’ judgment is just (vs. 16)
Jesus does everything by the Father’s authority (vs. 28)
Jesus reveals the Father (vs. 19 & 26-29)
Believe (trust/have faith) in the Light
Provides restored relationship (forgiveness) (vs. 24 & 28)
Trusting for salvation is only part of what God desires of us.
Delighting (loving, appreciating, finding joy) in God for being God is the bigger picture. Jesus shines forth the glory of God.
Delight in the Light
Jesus pleases (gives joy to) the Father (vs. 29)
We please the Father by believing and delighting in Jesus
