Peace Be with You

John 20:19-31

We started the series on the Gospel of John in September 2016 with John’s purpose for writing his account of Jesus, “so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.” (20:31) In this passage, Jesus appears twice to his disciples and repeats three times the phrase, “Peace be with you.” Jesus makes it clear His peace is available and necessary.

Peace of Knowing the Risen Lord (vs 19-20)

Fear of those out to get you is dispelled.

Gladness permeates the peace Jesus gives.

Peace of the Holy Spirit in Our Ministry (vs 21-23) [14:26-27]

Jesus sends us into service with divine help.

Our central ministry is reconciliation.

Un-Peace of Disbelief (vs 24-25)

One misses out on blessings by requiring things be “my way.”

Having no genuine foundation for faith erodes hope.

Peace of Certainty (vs 26-31)

Jesus is both Lord and God.

We share the blessing of Jesus’ peace with sure hope.

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on you, because he trusts in you.” (Isaiah 26:3)
